A competition for local football teams from which the entire proceeds, a few hundred pounds each year, are donated to local health charities.

¬ 2009-10 COMPETITION................SEE BELOW ¬

Originally called the 'Hospital Charity Competition' the cup which bears his name was presented by Dr C.H.McComas in 1923. It remains a keenly contested competition amongst local teams, being an opportunity for them to play local rivals who may be in different leagues.

16 teams are invited to participate, usually in October each year, with the first round matches played before Christmas, second round in January, 1/4 finals in Feb/March, semi-finals in March/April.

The Final in early May is always a popular event on the sporting calendar, guaranteed a lively crowd exchanging local banter. It takes place at Meadowbank, home of Dorking FC, with the very kind support of Messrs Jack and Ray Collins. Under the floodlights later in the game, it's an atmospheric venue and it's always good to see the ground in its role at the heart of the community.

Amongst charities which have benefitted in recent years are:-

Friends of Dorking Community Hospital; Friends of East Surrey Hospital; Friends of Epsom Hospital; St John Ambulance;
Colebrook Day Centre; Diabetes UK; The Royal Marsden Hospital; St Catherine's Hospice; Surrey Air Ambulance Fund.

THE SAGA OF THE MISSING PLINTH.....CAN YOU HELP?

After Mickleham Old Boxhillian's win in 2004 the original plinth became separated from the cup in the midst of the team's celebrations. Searches and questions after it was discovered to be missing failed to produce any answers. As silver plate it would not have much value in itself but on it were engraved the winners since 1959. The winners then, as it happens, were Brockham, winners this year. If you happen to know anything of its whereabouts, such information would be very gratefully received. The plinth pictured is a new one of sufficient size to hold a band with room for the engraving of those post '59 winners and many more. The cup itself has a somewhat 'wonky and dented' appearance befitting its vintage and the hard fought battles which it has inspired.

The new plinth silver band with engraved winners was first presented in 2009; see photo near top of page.

INAUGURAL YEAR OF THE U/15 COMPETITION, SEASON 2008-9.

Given the longevity of the Charity Cup it was felt appropriate to create a competition for younger footballers giving them the same opportunity to play teams from the local area whom they would not normally play in the course of their league fixtures. The generosity of the Dorking based Bantam Charitable Trust has provided a splendid cup for which the boys will compete: The Bantam trophy.

Unfortunately fixture congestion has been one factor why this competition has not yet become established.
